ARE YOU COUNTING ALL OF YOUR VOLUNTEERING HOURS?
WA-ID Volunteer Center is often asked if certain volunteer work can be counted. All volunteer hours can count with these exceptions:
You cannot count any political activities
You cannot count teaching in Sunday/Sabbath school
You cannot count preaching a sermon, or attending or leading a Bible Study.
You cannot count assistance you provide to an immediate family member.
Here are some volunteer activities we often get asked about. The answer is YES to all of these and we will count them under the category of “Community Service”:
Serving on boards, commissions, and committees.
City, County, State Park Work
Environment: picking up litter, planting trees, maintaining sidewalk areas, etc.
Grange, Theater, Musicals, Bands, Singing Groups etc.
Any work you do with other clubs/organizations i.e. Garden Club, Homemakers, Quilters, Rotary, …
TURN IN YOUR HOURS MONTHLY
One way that we are able to quantify the work we do in recruiting, placing and supporting volunteers at local nonprofit agencies to our various funders, is to report on the number of hours WA-ID Volunteer Center volunteers contribute to the community. If we can show that we are saving the city, county, or state significant money through volunteerism, they understand the value of having a Volunteer Center in their community and are more reluctant to cut funding. Reports are required at different times. Some are monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or yearly. When volunteers hold hours for several months it skews our reporting, so please turn in your reports each month. If you are traveling or gone, we still want you to turn in the hours even if they are late. But it sure helps us with the paperwork when hours come in on time!
